Top 5 tips and tricks to start saving and shopping Smart

1. Use Credit and Pay it Off on Time – Most of the major stores will offer a "6 months, no interest, no payments" offer on big ticket items. These offers are not just to help you buy stuff but they are placed there to lure you to buy the items and pay more than the original cost of the item if you had paid cash. The best thing to do is to is either pay cash for the item straight away or put the cash aside and invest in a short term high yielding savings account for 5.5 months , this way you are making sure that you have enough money to pay for the original price of the item and might get some interest on your savings while you buy the item on credit using somebody else’s money for the period of 6 months. Remember to pay the full balance off on time before the due day or all your effort will be for nothing.

2. Extended Warranty? Say No! Stores play on the fact that electronics are a big investment, and try to scare you into buying an Extended Warranty. Mostly all products are pretty much reliable and you already have statutory rights if something goes wrong. Extended warranties cost extra and for a percentage of the item's retail price. In retail consumer electronics, extended warranties cost 20% to 30% of the price. The big part of the extended warranty does not goes to the insurance company but to the sales representatives or the retailer.
