How to Fix a Scratched CD

  1. Polishing a disc can repair a scratched CD by removing some of the outer plastic coating and thus making existing scratches shallower. A number of common household products can be used to polish the CD, but toothpaste (especially baking soda toothpaste) and Brasso are probably the most tried-and-true. You can also use a fine grit polishing compound that's used for cars or hard finishes. Apply a small amount of toothpaste (must be paste, not gel) or Brasso to a soft, clean, lint-free cloth: an eyeglass-cleaning cloth works well. Gently rub the cloth on the scratch or scuff in a non-radial motion, start at the center and rub to the edge and go around in strokes. Rubbing in a circular motion can cause small scratches that throw off the laser tracking system in the player. Try to focus your efforts solely on the scratch or scratches you’ve identified (if possible). Polish in this manner for a couple of minutes, reapplying Brasso or toothpaste to the cloth as necessary. Be careful not to apply much pressure, although you will still be able to feel the cloth gently scratching the CD as it polishes.
  2. If you used toothpaste, rinse the disc thoroughly with warm water and let dry. Make sure to remove all of the toothpaste and let the disc dry completely before trying to play it. With Brasso, wipe off excess product and let the rest dry. Then, using a clean cloth, gently wipe disc again.
  3. If the problem persists, polish again for up to 15 minutes or until the scratch is almost completely buffed out. The surface around the scratch should begin to look shiny with many tiny scratches. If you still don’t notice any difference after polishing for a few minutes, the scratch may be extremely deep, or you may be polishing the wrong scratch.
Wax the tracks. If polishing doesn’t work, apply a very thin coat of Vaseline, liquid car wax, neutral shoe polish or furniture wax to the CD’s playing surface. Wipe excess off using clean, soft, lint-free cloth in a radial (inside to outside) motion. If using wax, follow manufacturer’s instructions (some need to dry before you wipe them off, while others should be wiped off while still wet).
  4. If the wax or Vaseline does the trick, burn a new copy of the CD immediately. The waxing method is only a temporary solution.
  5. If the disc still doesn’t play correctly, bring it in to a music store (especially one that sells used CDs) or a DVD rental store and ask if they can repair the disc for you. Many of these businesses have CD refinishing machines that do a remarkable job, and they’ll probably charge you less than five dollars to repair the CD.
You can buy a disc scratch-remover at any office store or supermarkets. Don't worry, it works for all types of CDs.

Tips on Living and Eating Healthy

Here are a few tips to help you remain healthy, happy and vibrant.

1. Drink plenty of water. There are many reasons for drinking sufficient amounts of water every day. Adequate water intake prevents dehydration. It flushes out body impurities and toxins. Water is great for making your skin clearer, smoother and younger-looking. It is also good to try and avoid drinking soft drinks and other drinks loaded with sugar.

2. Eat regular meals. Skipping meals can cause hunger pangs and food cravings which can lead to overeating during the day. It can also result in a decrease in blood sugar levels. A good approach would be to eat 4-5 small meals during the day than 2-3 larger ones. It helps control your appetite and stabilize your blood sugar as well.

3. An apple a day keeps the doctor away. You have heard this saying plenty of times and it is true. It is recommended that a person eat at least five serves of fruits and vegetables every day. By increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables every day, you significantly reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer. They are also perfect substitutes for foods with added sugar that can lead to tooth decay- thus it keeps the doctor and dentist away.

4. Take deep breaths. By taking ten deep breaths daily you are increasing blood circulation around your body, improving your oxygen levels, reducing your stress levels and helping you to feel more relaxed.

5. Engage in physical activity and exercise. Regular exercise can help prevent diseases, reduce weight, improve self-esteem and decrease levels of stress. Exercising can include any activity from walking, jogging, swimming, dancing, playing sports or even practicing other forms of exercise such as yoga or pilates.

6. Maintain a healthy weight. Maintain a body weight that is just right for you. This can depend on a number of factors that should be taken into account such as age, height, gender and heredity. By being too thin, you increase your risk of menstrual irregularities, osteoporosis and other health-related problems. Excess body weight can lead to an increase in the risk of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and other illnesses. Keeping up with regular exercise can also help in maintaining your weight.

7. Use humor and laughter to stay healthy. There are so many benefits to laughing. It helps lower blood pressure, improves brain functioning and relaxes the body. Whether you watch a funny movie or spend time with humorous people, it elevates our mood and makes us feel good. On top of that, laughing is contagious. Laugh and the world laughs with you.

8. Exercise your brain. Exercising your body is great but don’t forget your brain too. Read a book or a magazine that you find interesting or work on a crossword puzzle or two. By doing that, you help stimulate your brain and it improves your memory.

Treatment Tips for Acne Sufferers

Get plenty of fresh air and sunshine. Not only will your skin appreciate the vitamin D, your body and mind will enjoy the oxygen and stress reducer of just being outside in the fresh air. Remember to use sun protection or tanning lotion if you're out for any period of time.

Even "good" stress can trigger internal chemical responses that result in acne, so plan ahead to deal with extra stress when planning a wedding, graduation, move, new job, job transfer, new baby, etc. Get help around the house, take time off, exercise have fun or whatever you need to do. But be proactive.

When you control stress, you help control the stress hormone cortisol - reducing its release as you reduce stress, reduces the effects of acne. Activity and exercise help improve blood flow
and circulation and are natural healing aids for your skin enabling improved waste management, via your skin pores.

Both blackheads and whiteheads are filled with trapped sebum and bacteria. So prevention and treatment advice for how to handle them is important.

Drink plenty of water daily. A recommendation is three to four tall glasses of mineral or filtered water. If you don't drink enough, it can lead to dehydration, which leads to dead skin cells not naturally falling off or sloughing properly. This results in blocked pores which ultimately turns into acne.

Acne has nothing to do with dirt, so don't over-wash or over-scrub your face or the rest of your body. Too much washing and scrubbing can result in dry skin. Dry skin means your skin creates more oil. which leads to extra dead skin cells and blocked pores which trigger acne flare-ups.

Add more fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts to your regular diet.
Add salads, dried fruit and nut snacks, juices and other healthy
treats to your daily diet plan

Decrease your intake of caffeine, sugar and refined carbohydrates. Some studies show caffeine can increases levels of stress hormones inside your body, provoking or worsening acne conditions.

Sugar and refined carbohydrates, such as that in white bread, rice, flour, pasta, etc., can result in an insulin surge, resulting in an excess of hormones stimulating the skin to discharge lots of sebum.

Decrease your dietary intake of red meat and dairy products. Since they are more difficult to digest, it's thought their acid-forming properties are linked to our bodies health. It's thought when the body puts effort into the digestion of high levels of animal protein, waste products are not completely processed as quickly as they should be, i.e. they shed slowly, blocking pores which causes acne.

Red meat and dairy products may contain high levels of hormones that may generate higher levels in humans thus causing acne.

Use natural products on your skin. Avoid unnecessary chemicals in skin/body products that may be harmful.

Use non-pore clogging or noncomedogenic products like make-ups and tanning lotions.
Look for any combination of these terms on labels: natural ingredients, antibacterial, antiseptic, anti fungal, anti parasitic, antiviral and / or antimicrobial agent.

Taking these basic steps can help you control your acne.

How to Brush Your Skin to Relieve Acne

Brushing your skin with a brush or cloth is an excellent way to improve the appearance of your skin. If you have acne, this brushing will help to eliminate toxins through the skin and reduce the toxins that accumulate in your acne.

Brushing your skin while dry and just before taking a shower is a way to stimulate the flow of liquid through lymphatic system and increase the circulating of blood. It also has other benefits:

* Removes and brushes away dry dead cells that can clog your skin
* Opens pores to allow you to excrete more toxins safely
* Activates the nerves near the top of your skin, making your skin work better
* It stimulates the tiny blood vessels near your skin and brings more nutrients and acid neutralizing minerals to your skin
* Improves your overall health since the skin must eliminate close to 2 pounds of waste through your pores.

If you practice dry or wet brushing your skin, you will see improved beauty and health in your skin.

You can also scrub your skin during your shower and this is the way I like to do it.

There are two different types of brushes that are designed for dry skin brushing.

* A natural bristle brush
* Loofah with a long handle
When you start bushing for the first time, do it softly and gentle until your skin gets use to the rough feeling. If you have not been brushing and scrubbing your skin, then you may have some side effects caused by stirring up toxins. Because skin brushing promotes release of toxins through the skin, you want to make sure you are not constipated, otherwise you will start to release to many toxins through the skin.

A word of caution: Brush only once a day and do not brush too hard. Excessive brushing over stimulates the skin and can produce unwanted side effects.

But, here is how to dry brush your skin before you take a shower,

* Start with gentle light touch circular motions at your face. If you have severe acne do this gently massage with a clean hot face towel and do not brush your face.
* Always brush only in the direction of your heart. From the feet upward, brush up toward the heart. At the neck, brush downward toward the heart.

After you finish brushing, about 5 minutes, take a shower to remove the dead and old skin.

What I do is use a loofah in the shower with soap and brush my skin as described above. It is a gentler way to brush your skin and you wash away the skin derby at the same time. Brushing your body decreases the amount of toxins that reach your face and can help you get rid of or prevent acne.

How To Get Rid of Blackheads

This tip is for all the men who want to get rid of blackheads. Blackheads are caused by partially blocked pores. The "black" appearance of them is not caused by dirt, but by the oxidising effect of air on the sebum (oil) in a blocked pore and the melanin pigment from the dead skin cells.

Step 1 You will need
* A bowl of very hot water
* exfoliator
* toner
* face cream for reducing enlarged pores
* soap for oily or neutral skin

Step 2 Daily exfoliator
In the morning, wash your face using a daily exfoliator and some warm water. Apply in a circular motion, emphasising the common problem areas. In men these are normally the nose and upper cheeks. When you're done, rinse your face with warm water.

Step 3 Apply cream
Apply a face cream especially designed to reduce enlarged pores. This will be specified on the packaging. Apply using upward strokes. You can also tap the skin to improve circulation.

Step 4 Apply toner
Dampen a cosmetic pad by running it under warm water, then squeezing the water out of the pad. Apply toner to the pad and run lightly over your nose and upper cheeks. Toner will close the pores after exfoliating.

Step 5 At night
Before you go to bed, wash your face with soap and warm water. Use a soap designed for oily or neutral skin. This will be clearly marked on the packaging. Finally run over your face with some toner before heading off for that all-important beauty sleep.

Step 6 A steam bath
If, despite these preventative measures you find yourself faced with a rogue blackhead, fill a bowl with hot, steaming water. Drape a towel over your head and lean over the bowl. Stay in the steam for 10 minutes. This will open the pores and soften the content of the blackhead.

Step 7 Extricate the blighter
Wrap a tissue around each of your index fingers, and apply gentle pressure on each side of the blackhead. Try to tease out the blackhead. Don't squeeze too hard, and if the blighter's stubborn back off - the last thing you want is to cause scarring. Never use your fingernails as they carry dirt and can cause further infection.

Step 8 Call in the professionals
For a flawless complexion, consider a regular facial once every 4 weeks or so.

Ten Practical Money Saving Tips

Financial security is important to every individual. By building a workable plan, we are able to find the path to future financial freedom. I have compiled a couple of saving tips that I hope will benefit you and your family.

  • Alter credit card behavior and use it wisely. Try using cash or a debit card to limit how much you spend on your every day purchases. Keep your credit card for larger purchases only. This will help you utilize the money you have and live and spend within your means. When using your credit card, be sure to settle the balance each month. By doing this, it will help you save significant amount of money by avoiding interest charges.
  • Hide it before you spend it. When money is in your wallet, you tend to spend it but if hidden or it is in your bank, you won’t have that temptation to worry about.
  • Keep all your receipts and keep track of how much you spend. This will allow you to monitor how much you are spending and makes it easy for you to budget or cut down on unnecessary items when you need to.
  • Prepare a shopping list. By writing down all the items you require for your household, you are only getting the things that you will need. Try to resist the urge of buying something that is not on your list.
  • Prepare brown bag lunches. Packing your own meals for lunch can significantly reduce your grocery bills. Lunch meals every day add to your expenses and before you know it, you would have saved that money on something more worthwhile at the end of the day.
  • Avoid impulse shopping. Ever pass a store and think I have to have that awesome jacket? Or maybe that cool guitar on the shelf? Impulse shopping generally leads us to buy something that we hadn’t planned on getting in the first place and leads to wasteful spending. Before you go ahead, always think if you will really need it and if you want to save, you are probably better off without it.
  • Use alternative means of transportation. If you have means to public transportation, it’s a great way to save money. Find train and bus routes to and from your destination and compare the costs of driving a car. If you and your colleagues are able to carpool, you can share the costs of going to work and vice versa.
  • Save coupons and search for bargains. Although this may sound like a boring thing to do, it does help save money. A lot of stores may offer almost twice the discount up to a certain amount on purchases eg. Buy one, get one free or buy one and get another at a reduced price. Even using coupons for restaurants can help save money.

Increase your Wi-Fi network strenght

Many new notebook computers contain built-in Wi-Fi network adapters. These adapters are integrated circuit chips. Other wireless laptops utilize external network adapters such as PCMCIA cards or USB adapters.

When using a notebook with public hotspots, a strong Wi-Fi signal is necessary to ensure successful Internet access and good connection speed. A wireless laptop with limited range is likely to suffer from slow or dropped Internet connections.

1. Install an external Wi-Fi antenna on the laptop (if possible). For this option to be feasible, the laptop must support add-on antennas. Look for a special jack similar in appearance to a headphone or microphone jack. Sometimes these are called "SMA jacks." Consult the laptop product documentation for details.

2. Use a USB wireless network adapter with external antenna. USB Wi-Fi adapters hook onto the back or side of a laptop with a short USB cable. The external antenna on these adapters improves signal range, and the antenna can be adjusted/pointed for fine tuning. To use this option, the laptop must have an open USB port available. Additionally, other network adapter(s) on the laptop should be disabled to prevent interference.

3. Check transmission power settings. Some network adapters support adjusting their transmission power. If available, this setting can be adjusted through the adapter's driver interface program, along with the other settings for wireless profiles and Wi-Fi channel number. The transmission power should be set to "maximum" or "100%" to ensure the strongest signal possible. Note that if a laptop is being run in a power saving mode, this setting may automatically be lowered and decrease the adapter's range and signal strength.

How to Ace an Interview

The best approach to ace an interview is to always prepare for it. It may sound like something that we do but that is not always the case. There are many applicants who turn up for an interview without knowing about the company and its industry. By being prepared for your interview, you will also tend to show up less nervous for an interview.

Here are a few steps to help you prepare before going for the interview.

1. Think about why you want the job. List at least three reasons and be prepared to tell them to the interviewer.

2. Practice makes perfect ! Get one of your family members or friends to help you practice a few interview sample questions and check your body language eg. handshake.

3. Research the company. It is always a good idea to know as much as you can about the company and the position that you are applying for. That way you are able to explain why you are the best person for the job. Use as many ways as you can to help you with finding the information from using the Internet to contacting the main office.

4. Know yourself and your work history. Review your resume and be prepared to answer any questions about your qualifications, skills and work experience. Envision how you can add to the value of the position and the company. Try to collect letters of references and work samples to prove your accomplishments in the past.

5. Prepare questions of your own to ask. Interviewers are happy that we ask questions and will be impressed if we ask them questions such as ‘Where does this job position fit in the company as a whole?’ It shows them that we are keen about the company and are interested to know more about them.

On the day of the interview, here are some tips to help you. Remember first impressions count and during the first five minutes, the outcome of the interview greatly lies on the impression that you set out to make during that time.

1. Dress and grooming. Dress appropriately and make sure that your attire fits within the office. If you are not sure, call the office and ask. Shirts/dresses and skirts/pants should be neatly pressed. Hair and fingernails should be kept tidy and clean. Avoid the use of excessive jewellery, make-up and cologne.

2. Be punctual. Arrive for the interview 15 minutes early – not too early or not too late. Consider if there might traffic the day before and plan your route accordingly.

3. Shake hands with the interviewer. Make sure that your handshake is firm and projects confidence. Make eye contact with the interviewer when you do so. Make it a point to remember the name of the interviewer as it will show them that the interview is important to you.

4. Body language. Ensure that your posture is straight and that you are not in a slouched position while seated. Making good eye contact with the interviewer also helps.

5. Communication and listening skills. Speak clearly and at an appropriate pace so that the interviewer will not feel like you are rushing the interview. Listen carefully to the questions that the interviewer asks you during the interview and if you are not sure about, you can ask the interviewer to repeat them as he/she is there to help you. Remember the interviewer is as nervous as you are and wants the position to be filled as quickly as possible. Try to be as positive as you can about the interview and remember always to smile.

After the interview is over, there is the follow- through. It is good to send your interviewer a thank you letter summarizing and re-highlighting your skills. Thank the interviewer and request if it will be ok to contact them in a week’s time.

Top 5 tips and tricks to start saving and shopping Smart

1. Use Credit and Pay it Off on Time – Most of the major stores will offer a "6 months, no interest, no payments" offer on big ticket items. These offers are not just to help you buy stuff but they are placed there to lure you to buy the items and pay more than the original cost of the item if you had paid cash. The best thing to do is to is either pay cash for the item straight away or put the cash aside and invest in a short term high yielding savings account for 5.5 months , this way you are making sure that you have enough money to pay for the original price of the item and might get some interest on your savings while you buy the item on credit using somebody else’s money for the period of 6 months. Remember to pay the full balance off on time before the due day or all your effort will be for nothing.

2. Extended Warranty? Say No! Stores play on the fact that electronics are a big investment, and try to scare you into buying an Extended Warranty. The extended warranty may be offered by the warranty administrator, the retailer or the manufacturer but the important thing to remember is that its basically there to trick you to pay way more for the item than you need to. Mostly all products are pretty much reliable and you already have statutory rights if something goes wrong. Extended warranties cost extra and for a percentage of the item's retail price. In retail consumer electronics, extended warranties cost 20% to 30% of the price. The big part of the extended warranty does not goes to the insurance company but to the sales representatives or the retailer.

3. Window Shop in the Store but Purchase Online –With the Stores online you can purchase items online at fraction of the store price especially electronics and household items. Now days Stores are just places where you can walk in look at things you want and ask questions or try it out, to see if the product will work for you. Then simple buy it online from a reputable but cheap price.

4. Get “Accessories” on online and Save Big! – Often Retailers will charge more for “accessories” even after you buy expensive items like cables, gaming consoles, cases ..etc. The best thing to do at these times is to look at sites like eBay or at least research online, where you can get same or better items at low prices.

5. Seasonal Items at Clearance – Sales of Seasonal items are a good bargain time when you can buy items at greatly reduced prices from retailers. Since the holiday is over they need to clear out to make spaces for the next one. Take advantage of that, and buy now for next year and save.
